Pagli is, by all accounts, one of the fathers of Malbec’s rebirth as the flag of Argentine wine. “Arrived in Mendoza in 1995. They asked me to make a Sangiovese, the famous Tuscan grape variety, but when I arrived in Argentina I realized that Malbec was a terrible, despised and abused strain. I told them to make a Malbec. They thought I was. crazy.”
